Mercer, PA – Saturday night a new era started for the Emods in the Northeast. The inaugural event for the new United Emod Series was held at Mercer Raceway Park as part of the annual “CHILLER THRILLER“. Twenty-eight race teams from New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio were entered in the first of six events on the UEMS schedule.
The first of three heat races had Dunn, starting fifth in the eight lap heat race finishing third enabled Dunn to qualify for the feature redraw for the top twelve cars in the three heat races. The redraw gave Dunn the fourth place starting position for the 25 lap feature.
Qualifying for their third “CHILLER THRILLER”, Dunn and the team looked to improve on the previous years finishes 3rd in 2006 and 5th in 2007. The start of the first ever main event for the series began with two complete restarts. When race officially began, Dunn was able to advance to 2nd by place lap five. As the top three cars battled, the leader just as lap 10 was completed spun into the wall slowing both the second running Dunn and the third place car of Randy Hall. As a result of the accident Hall was able to get past Dunn and into the lead. Green flag racing took place with Dunn closely following Hall when the final caution of the race came out on lap fifteen With eight laps to go Dunn did all he could do to close on pass Hall, and with five to go was able to get as close to two car lengths and settled for second as the checkers flew.
The next event for the United Emod Series schedule will be Friday May 16 at McKean County Raceway in East Smethport, PA. The next event for Dunn-Olivieri Racing will be Sunday April 13, 2008 at the Challenger Raceway in Indiana, PA as they take part in the opener for the UFO Race Championship Series.
