2008 Season Preview

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

The 2008 season will be the third for Dunn-Olivieri Racing, following two impressive seasons that has seen the team capture the Sharon Speedway and Mercer Raceway Park E-Mod point titles and the Pittsburgh Circle Track Club E-Mod championship.

The third year team, with driver Russ Dunn behind the wheel, is looking forward to what the 2008 season has to offer. The primary goal this year is to win more races . Dunn-Olivieri Racing will continue its pattern of the last couple of years, paying visits to Mercer Raceway Park, Raceway 7, Tri-City Speedway, Challenger Raceway, an occasional road trip to other tracks is always a possibility, and we are possibly considering following the new United Emod Series.

The team will again have two cars at its disposal. A 2001 Rocket Chassis, powered by a Domhoff Engine and clad with American Racer tires, will start the season and be the workhorse for the first half of the year. The second car is a new, 2007 Larry Shaw Chassis, also powered by a Domhoff Engine and clad with American Racer tires, will make its debut sometime in June or July.

Sponsors for 2008 are Dan Dunn Trucking, Laurel Gardens Tire Service, McDonald’s, Oyler Action Photos, Vecenie Distributing (Iron City & Straub Beer), Frankland Racing Supply, Ed Miller Signs, Lias Tire, American Race Tire, Pennzoil Products, and Domhoff Racing Engines.

The Dunn-Olivieri Racing team is dedicating this season to 15-year-old TJ Bertges. TJ was recently diagnosed with a form of leukemia call Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Pro-B. (A.L.L.) TJ decided to accept his new challenge in a different way, and find something he would enjoy doing but also help others that endure the same new challenges as himself. TJ decided he would start collecting different hats from anywhere and everywhere. TJ even went as far as seeing how many hats it might take to break a world record. You can read more about TJ’s Journey on our page dedicated to TJ and also on TJ’s web site.

TJ is currently designing a logo that will be placed on the back of the cars to make people become more knowledgeable of cancer awareness. Ed Miller Signs, along with the team, is also designing a decal for the drivers to display on their cars. The goal is for those teams to help collect as many hats for TJ as possible in his quest to break the record.

The 2008 edition of Dunn-Olivieri Racing is going to take the knowledge it learned last season along with the consistency it showed in each race and apply it to both cars in hope of another season to remember. What will be said at the end of this year about Russ Dunn and Dunn-Olivieri Racing? As the saying goes: “time will tell“. A new chapter to this story begins Saturday March 29,2008 at Mercer Raceway Park.
